From pedicures, nail extensions, acrylics, gel, and endless nail art, to full body services like waxing, massages, microblading, and eyelash extensions, nail salons provide a plethora of services. Since Rihanna made #StilettoNails trend via Instagram in 2012, social media has been an integral force in shaping contemporary Nail Art culture, and multibillion dollar nail economy.

Traditional Vietnamese salons are often where today’s nail influencers and second and third generation nail professionals get their start. But the economic challenges of owning a salon, and the racial demographics of nail techs, has been changing for some time. 

Roughly 76% of nail techs are Asian, with over 74% born in Vietnam, 7% born in China, and 4% born in Korea. But other predominantly female immigrant groups; Hispanic, Khmai, Nepali, Tibetan, and others are a growing part of this diverse workforce and space.
